Siding and Roofing: Identifying Hail Damage on Lake of the Ozarks Homes

Being a homeowner can be tough, and sometimes it brings with it unique challenges. Many of the problems that hit you will be sudden, so the only thing you can do is to be prepared. If you live at Lake of the Ozarks, one of the unexpected challenges you are most likely to experience at some point is excessive wear and tear or serious damage from hail. Hailstorms can strike suddenly and cause major damage to your siding and roofing.

It is important for you to identify the signs of hail damage so you can have it fixed immediately and avoid further problems to your home. Many times, these damages to your siding and roofing are easily visible, while others require trained eyes to identify them.

Roofing Hail Damage

The most visible signs of hail roof damage will be to your slate, shingles, or metal on the roof. The slate will have cracks or chips on the site of impact, the shingles will have round dents, and metal roofs will have dents or scratches on them. On shingled roofs check thoroughly for missing granules as well. While some of the time, these damages are mostly aesthetic, larger hail can be quite destructive and will need immediate attention

Once you have inspected the roof, check the gutters for signs of hail damage, too. Check for discoloration or small dents. You want to avoid potential rust or even breakage if you have vinyl gutters. Any damage can create future problems and allow water to leak in around the house.

If you are unable to find any visible signs of damage on the roof, check the attic for leaks, water damage or light peeking through any holes that may not be visible from on top of the roof.

Siding Hail Damage

Depending on what type of siding you have on your home, the damage from the hail will greatly differ. The gutters and eaves might protect the top of the siding from serious damage, so be especially watchful for damage to the bottom half of the siding. Wood and metal sidings are more prone to dents, while vinyl siding will more likely chip, crack, or have holes.

Dents are usually irregularly shaped, and they can be hard to detect at first. So, make sure you check the siding from all angles to understand the extent of the damage. Siding damaged by hail can cause water to leak into the house and cause problems even to your interior walls. Thus, it is best to get hail damage repairs performed immediately to prevent it from causing further trouble.
